Electrical control and power solution installation for Longcliffe Quarries Limited

Woodward Group was asked to design the control system for a static-stone grading and processing system at their Longcliffe Quarry, complete with the installation and commissioning of the control system.

The grading system included a main intake crusher taking the raw stone feed, the output of which was then transported across on a network of conveyors, graded to various sizes, and delivered to the appropriate storage hopper.

Using our scoping design expertise on a project that was not a tried and proven system, we developed a number of variations of both the design and the process, before we produced and installed a highly efficient and reliable solution.

BACKGROUND:

Longcliffe Quarries is one of the UK’s leading independent suppliers of pure limestone powder, granules and aggregates. The company approached Woodward Group with a brief to design the control system for a static-stone grading and processing system at the quarry, to include its installation and commissioning.

The grading system had to include a main intake crusher that takes the raw stone feed for processing. The resulting output products were then to be transported across a network of conveyors, graded and sorted by size, and delivered to the relevant storage hopper on-site.

SOLUTION & OUTCOMES:

Woodward Group’s design team worked closely with the Quarry’s production engineer to create a one-off, bespoke process specification. This included:

  • Conveyor sequencing
  • Integrated controls with the existing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)
  • Conveyor control systems

Flexing our design capabilities on a project that was not a tried and proven system, we developed a number of variations of both the design and the process, before we produced and installed a highly efficient turnkey solution.

Control System and Safety Interlocks were commissioned, with all documentation signed-off by the client.

We produced an accompanying Operational and Maintenance Manual, and provided training for the designated operator team.
