Mechanical and Electrical factory fit out for Ibstock Brick

Woodward Group was recently commissioned to enhance health and safety monitoring and protect stock, tools, and products from malicious damage at Alstom Derby’s three main service and fit-out shops: G, U, and V.

We successfully delivered comprehensive CCTV coverage across all areas, ensuring no blind spots and enabling effective oversight of contractor activities on-site.

Alstom is the UK & Ireland’s leading supplier of new trains and train services, and a leading signalling and rail infrastructure provider. Alstom have built, or are building, just under 40% of the UK mainline train fleet, as well as the entire fleets in service with London Underground and Dublin Luas. It provides the widest range of smart solutions in the rail market, from innovative high-speed rolling stock, metros and trams to maintenance, modernisation, infrastructure and signalling.

The project involved designing and installing an advanced CCTV system for Alstom Derby that was tailored to the shops’ specific needs. Key tasks included:

  • Installing containment, a fibre network, and local data cabinets equipped with 24-port fibre network switches to maintain PoE distances below 95 metres.
  • Strategically deploying 4K, 360-degree, and HD cameras throughout the shops to achieve total coverage without blind spots.
  • Setting up six NVRs with 30-day retention for comprehensive recording capabilities.
  • Integrating the system so that recordings from each shop can be accessed from the facility’s main office, offering seamless monitoring.

The upgraded CCTV system has provided Alstom Derby with crystal-clear recordings, delivering a high level of detail essential for health and safety monitoring. The system has already proven invaluable, offering critical evidence for on-site health and safety investigations.
