Water Network & GV installation for Soufflet Malt
Woodward Group supported Soufflet Malt with the installation of two new 225-tonne germination vessels (GVs) at its Burton-on-Trent facility.
These new vessels, positioned alongside the existing four GVs, were designed to increase processing capacity and efficiency at the site.
With 29 sites in Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa, Soufflet Malt has an annual production capacity of 2,400,000 tonnes of malt to meet the demands of its customers around the world. Its agronomic expertise combined with its industrial excellence ensures the availability of a wide range of exceptional malts, standard or special, kilned or roasted, with the aim of continuously improving the sustainability of Soufflet Malt products.
To deliver the expansion at its Burton on Trent site, Soufflet Malt enlisted process specialist Don Valley Engineering (DVE) to supply the necessary process equipment, including the vessels, steelwork gantries, and conveyors. Woodward Group was responsible for executing the associated process M&E systems for DVE, as well as additional M&E infrastructure beyond DVE’s specialist scope.
Woodward Group oversaw the following aspects of the project:
- Installation of M&E systems supporting the new germination vessels
- LV infrastructure including small power, lighting and emergency lighting
- Mechanical upgrades including HP & LP stainless steel pipework, above-ground drainage, and installation of valves & instrumentation.
- Specialist services; lightning protection and fire alarm installation.
- Enhancements to the iconic water tower, incorporating pipework, valves, electrical control systems, and control panel builds
- Upgrades to grain storage silos, including improvements to the temperature rope monitoring system
As a result of these works, Soufflet Malt has successfully increased its production capacity and operational efficiency. Following the success of this project, Woodward Group has been appointed to carry out a full overhaul of Soufflet Malt’s pellet mill, which will include an ATEX-compliant upgrade of the design, equipment, and electrical control panels.
Woodward Group is proud to continue supporting Soufflet Malt in modernising and optimising its facility for future growth.
